Singapore is known for many things. A former British royal colony. One of the great city-states in the world today. An international crossroads of various Asian cultures. The location of one of the best airports in the world. And, the Singapore Sling at the famous Raffles Hotel.
AQB Travel Group had the privilege of visiting Singapore in May, 2023. Like Hong Kong, Tokyo, and possibly Dubai, Singapore is unto itself with unique architecture, wonderful restaurants, and local attractions to keep you busy. During this trip to Singapore, our staff had the opportunity to visit Chinatown, the Jewel at Changi Airport, the Arab Quarter, the Marina Sands Mall and Hotel, and taking a cruise on a bum boat to try a local specialty - chili crab!
Because Singapore is near the equator, temperatures do not vary significantly during the year. One should expect (in Fahrenheit) 80-90 degrees during the day and high 70s to low 80s during the evening and early morning. And, its very humid. So, be careful when considering a summer vacation.
Transportation is excellent around the city. The subway system is efficient and provides a cost effective way to get around town. Taxi service is somewhat reliable and getting an application (such as Grab or Zip) will help in getting service quickly. Uber is not available in Singapore.
While the views from the rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and other architectural wonders abound, it is the way that Singapore has implemented sustainability into the city's personality. You will see the use of vegetation to cover building facades and the use of green spaces all around the city. Two great examples of this are the Jewel at Changi Airport and the Gardens at the Bay. The Jewel is part of Changi Airport and is located before security - so no need to have a boarding pass to visit. The Gardens at the Bay, located near the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, is made up of various gardens (both inside and out) along with a spectacular night show with tree structures that light up at night.
